INFECTIOUS DISEASES - THE SPECIALITY

The Infectious Diseases speciality is comprised of physicians who work in different areas of health care. The infectious disease physician may work in hospitals, outpatient care, with health surveillance, diagnosis and dealing with epidemics (large number of cases of the same disease in a short period of time, eg dengue fever in the summer), the study of emerging diseases (diseases that have increased their incidence in recent decades) and reemerging diseases (diseases that have reappeared after a period of significant decline), and especially in preventing infections. This is a professional with extensive knowledge far beyond his/her specialty, covering aspects of medicine and epidemiology, immunology and related interfaces with several diseases.
